Joyce Cooper-Kahn, Ph.D., is a clinical child psychologist, author, and speaker known for her expertise in ADHD and executive functioning. For over 30 years she has been at the forefront of efforts to educate the public regarding the needs of this population. In her clinical work, writing, workshops and presentations, Dr. Cooper-Kahn brings together science, clinical experience, and an appreciation for the daily demands of those raising and teaching children and adolescents. Her passion lies at this junction, where psychology offers clear direction to guide families and educators through the challenges.

Joyce’s efforts to educate and guide others and her love of writing come together in her books and articles for parents and teachers. The first edition of her award-winning book, Late, Lost, and Unprepared: A Parent's Guide to Helping Children with Executive Functioning (written with co-author Laurie Dietzel, Psy.D.) introduced readers to her enthusiasm, expertise, and straightforward guidance on ways to help youth with ADHD and executive functioning challenges. The second edition, released in June of 2024, offers updated information, fresh examples, and an all-new chapter on emotional regulation.

Dr. Cooper-Kahn is also the author, with Learning Specialist Margaret Foster, M.A.Ed., of Boosting Executive Skills in the Classroom: A Practical Guide for Educators.

She sees clients in Severna Park, Maryland, where she also offers consultations and second opinions regarding complex cases. Dr. Cooper-Kahn is proud to have been voted a Favorite Doctor by readers of Chesapeake Family Magazine four years in a row.

Dr. Cooper-Kahn earned her undergraduate degree from Barnard College and her doctorate in clinical psychology from Catholic University. Before entering full-time private practice in Severna Park in 1994, she worked in a variety of settings, including Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Kennedy Krieger Institute.

When she is not doing clinical work, Joyce is often writing or editing articles for CHADD's Attention Magazine. She loves reading and spending time outdoors kayaking, wandering, or puttering in the garden.
